Paramus Sunrise Rotary Celebrates Annual Flowerbox Planting At Paramus Bandshell

Flowerbox Bandshell Each year for the past five years, Paramus Sunrise Rotary has seen to it that flowers are planted in the flowerboxes that they donated to the Paramus Bandshell. The flowers have been donated through the courtesy of Westfield Garden State Plaza Shopping Center. The Shade Tree Department under the aegis of Jay Sexton planted them. Westfield and the Shade Tree Department have done this every year and Honorary Paramus Sunrise Rotary member Mayor Rich LaBarbiera has joined his club in celebration of the planting. The combination of Westfield and the Shade Tree Department insures the planting of the proper plants in the way that they should be done.

Fairway Market Fireman Cookoff Held At Fairway Market, Paramus

Fairway Market Annual Fireman Cookoff From the viewpoint of a food judge at the Fairway Market Annual Fireman Cookoff, it was a tough decision. To give you an idea, the winner won by one point collated from the ratings by three food judges. Once again, the winner this year was Park Ridge Firemen. They also won last year. The other two, Hackensack, # 2, and Ridgewood, #3 were also fairly close. Realize that these firemen came out on Father's Day to compete in the cookoff and the winner was able to donate $500.00 to a charity of their choice. Fairway also gave them shopping credits.

Chef Gisele Perez Brings Home the Sweet Summer Taste of New Orleans

Chef Gisele Pere
Summer time anywhere in America evokes memories of long, hot days, sitting in the shade on a porch or under a large tree eating something cold and sweet.  For Chef Gisele Perez, summertime brings back fond memories of time spent in New Orleans.

“Summers in New Orleans were steamy enough to immediately fog up my glasses when I stepped outside the air conditioned house, but there were plenty of treats to keep us cool,” Gisele explains. “Sodas were delivered by the crate load to Aunt Leticia’s house. There was also a neighborhood specialty called “huckabucks,” a fruity punch mixture frozen into paper cups, sold by one of the neighbors, and the ubiquitous New Orleans specialty, snow balls, paper cones filled with shaved ice and topped with sticky sweet syrups.  But my favorite summer treat was my Aunt Leticia’s homemade pineapple sherbet. We would sit outside under a shady tree and eat this delicious dessert and feel the heat melt away.”
