All 36 Store Locations Join Forces to Help Children in Need Nationwide
(Manchester, CT) January 28, 2010 – Bob's Discount Furniture, with 35 – soon to be 36 – retail store locations throughout New England, New Jersey and New York, announces today it will be the primary sponsor of the ‘Open Your Heart’ campaign and collect new pajama, book or financial donations to benefit the national non-profit Pajama Program at each store location on February 27, 2010 from 10 am to 1 pm.
Each store will also offer the chance for kids to meet famous TV characters from Nickelodeon shows including “Dora the Explorer”, “SpongeBob SquarePants”, “Rugrats”, “Jimmy Neutron” and more. Additionally, President and Founder Bob Kaufman will be greeting customers at the Manchester, C.T. store, while PR Director and TV Spokesperson Cathy Poulin will be in the Yonkers, N.Y. location.
As part of its ongoing Random Acts of Kindness Program, Bob’s Discount Furniture has supported the Pajama Program’s ‘Open Your Heart’ campaign, previously known as the ‘Keep our Children Safe and Warm’ campaign, for the past three consecutive years. By encouraging customers to drop off new pajamas and books appropriate for infants and children up to 17 years old at their local Bob’s Discount Furniture, Bob’s has collected more than 6,000 new pajamas and books for distribution to children around the country.
“We’re excited to bring this program to Bob’s stores’ communities again with an effort to increase awareness for an extremely worthy cause,” said Cathy Poulin, TV personality and public relations director, Bob’s Discount Furniture. “The ‘Open Your Heart’ campaign is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the magic of giving with the young people in our lives.”
"It is an honor for our company to be involved with such a worthwhile cause that provides children with such an immediate and important need as their own night clothes,” said Bob Kaufman, president, Bob’s Discount Furniture. “Basic needs like pajamas and books are so simple, most never think twice about it, yet these mean so much to children.”
The Pajama Program delivers warm sleepwear and nurturing books to children in need throughout the United States, many who live in orphanages, group homes and shelters. These children are sometimes shuffled between temporary living situations just waiting and hoping to be adopted. Since 2001, the Pajama Program has provided more than 350,000 pajamas and 140,000 books to children.
“This is the coldest and loneliest time of year when neglected children need our help the most,” said Genevieve Piturro, founder and executive director, Pajama Program. “Therefore, we are so thankful to Bob’s for giving back to children in need and another year of continued support of our important cause.”
