National Night Out

National Night Out- Across the country, local police departments held National Night Out aimed at bringing families together away from the home. The Paramus Police Department has honored this tradition for many years. This year, they did it a little differently by moving it to the back of the library and near to the Bandshell. Detective Jimmy Teehan was put in charge of overseeing the endeavor.

Assisted by many police officers and attended by many families, Mayor James Tedesco considered it a success. It will probably be held at the same location next year. While parking on the premises was a problem, the parking lots of the Paramus High school were utilized. Golf carts were patrolling constantly to see that senior citizens and those unable to walk the distance were transported with a smile.

National Night Out -- www.ParamusPost.com was one of the many people that Detective Teehan contacted to display at the function. Paramus Sunrise Rotary and Paramus rotary were also there as well as Berkeley College with Pat Verile, Target Stores (who rapidly ran out of their giveaway bags, Doctor’s Express, Westfield Garden State Plaza Shopping Center, Bergen Town Center and Paramus Park Mall were all on hand. It was a pleasure to take a picture of ‘The Big Three’ managers together.

Welcome to the crowd braving the heat were Rita’s Ices, Starbucks and water donated by BJ’s, with the Paramus Police, Fire Departments and the Rescue Squad on hand. It was fascinating to watch the young people visit the tables and to partake of items that filled their sweet tooth. Even nicer was the number of parents who made sure that their children said thank you when they chose the candies of their delight.

National Night Out:- Another big hit among all generations were the purple adhesive bandage packages distributed by Doctor’s Express, 67 E. Ridgewood Avenue in Paramus. A handy item, it fulfilled a need!

Among the more prominent people seen were Pat and Maureen O’Brien, Cathy Bentz, Sam and Elaine Casiello, Michael Rohdieck, Ralph Amato, County Executive Dennis McNerney, Rich LaBarbiera and his wife, Deputy Chief James Sheehan, former Chief Rick Carey, retired Lieutenant Rob Wright, Captain Kevin Smith, Captain Ken Ehrenburg, Librarian Len LoPinto, Tony Bucco, Teri Duda, Denis Niland and his father, Joe, Kevin Sheehan, John Foster, Rich Abbamont and his lovely wife, Margaret, Donna Perkosky and Kevin Behnke.

These were just a few of the people who came by the www.Paramuspost.com table to say hello. Our picture editor, Sophie Stone, is on her way to China with her family so the pictures may take a little longer to be presented. Check back often to see when they are posted.

Many stayed after the function ended to watch Greaseband entertain at the Paramus Bandshell.
