The title ?Police Commissioner? usually brings to mind a blustering rotund man, well dressed and smoking a cigar. Frank Ciambrone is certainly well dressed, but fails to meet the stereotype image. As a matter of fact, he is quite down to earth and in a sense, retiring.
Interviewed in his law offices, we discussed the duties of the Police Commissioner. Frank?s acumen came through in how he handles the job of coordinating with Chief Fred Corrubia and the Police Department. Candidly, he admitted that he was not a law enforcement educated person and gives deference to the chief?s knowledge and experience in these matters. However, he does meet with the chief at least twice a month and is on the phone with him almost daily.
His duties are; ?To oversee the Police Department, work together with the chief to constantly improve their efficiency and make sure that the residents of Paramus are safe.?. Ciambrones?s praise of our PD is commendable.

Our ?Street Squad? (Anti-Crime Unit) is one of the segments of the Department of which he is most proud. With the many malls in our ?shopping town?, hundred?s of thousands of shoppers pour in to these venues. Along with them come the people who prey upon these innocent quarry. Their job is to monitor the malls, make arrests, deter violent crimes and criminal activities. Not only is shoplifting a part of their surveillance, but sex crimes, violent theft and fraud.
Quite recently they sprang into action when it was reported that a gas station attendant was ripping off the elderly. The ?Street Squad? immediately went to work and solved the case within a week. It wasn?t only the nickels and dimes times about twenty people a day (big money), but also the fact that the elderly were at risk. Credit for this fast action goes to our alert Paramus Police Department.
According to Commissioner Ciambrone, it is not just law enforcement that is involved. These 96 stalwart men and women are the fabric of the community. Taking part in the D.A.R.E. program and visiting the schools, they also coach in local sports and bring their families up in the town in which they work.
Frank?s legal practice is primarily in the field of Real Estate and Insurance matters including fraud and collections. He has waged many successful forays against Insurance Companies that don?t want to pay.
Married to Adrian, they have four sons, Frankie, Nicholas, Thomas and Steven ranging from 9 years down to 2. Frank and Adrian are products of the Paramus School system having graduated in 1985 and 1987 respectively.
When asked about his hobbies, he immediately quipped ?Chasing my kids around.? Other than golf, his family and politics take up almost all his free time. We did a male bonding when he mentioned cooking. Frank prefers to stay at home on Sundays rather than politic and to make a four course meal for his family.
When asked if he is a recipe or a ?throw it together? type of cook, he sagely stated that when he bakes, it is according to a recipe (a must in baking), but also follows Lydia?s Kitchen cooking for ideas. We chatted about the various methods of cooking, our favorite recipes and also some of our favorite restaurants.
It was interesting to see Police Commissioner Frank Ciambrone come alive with his cooking endeavors.
