Rotarian Marty Diamond, a great humanitarian, introduced the Hugo Gonzales family who had been victimized by Hurricane Katrina. With the help of the Red Cross, they managed to make it north to Paramus.
This trip was not without problems. They were given money to make the trip, but since they lost their vehicle in the flood, had to use most of that money to secure another vehicle for transportation. Dependent upon the goodwill of the town, the family is living from day to day.

Marty asked the club to be on the lookout for a job for the father who was a forklift operator in a warehouse down in New Orleans.
President Maureen Moran decided that all monies contributed at the meeting would go to the Gonzales family. An outpouring of feelings came through as Rotarians stood up and contributed much more than their usual amount. At the end of the meeting, over $800.00 was collected with pledges of more to be counted.
