Mayor & Council Meeting 02/28/06 Mayor Tedesco was absent from the Council meeting due to personal problems at home. Council President Frank Ciambrone asked that people pray for the Mayor and his family, that there is a speedy recovery.

The agenda was carried out by the Council President and the councilmen read the various ordinances and resolutions. The meeting was over before Clare Petti realized.

A presentation of $25,000 was made by the Pilgrim Church, a continuation of their desire to be an integral part of Paramus. The church also made the same amount of donation last year.

Len LoPinto, our Librarian, introduced Ann Miller, his Youth Librarian who explained the custom of Sadako's Paper Crane project.

?It is a custom for a town to make 1,000 paper cranes and present them to the Mayor of their town. They are then sent by that Mayor to the Mayor of Hiroshima in honor of Sadako Sasaki who was 2 years old when the atom bomb was dropped. At the age of 11, Sadako contracted the ?atom bomb disease?, Leukemia. When her best friend told her about a Japanese legend which said that anyone who folds a thousand paper cranes would be granted a wish. Her wish was to get well so that she could run again. Alas, before she could finish, she died on October 25, 1955. Visit the Library or www.sadako.com for more information.

The Library presented the Mayor of Paramus with 2,000 cranes.

Included in the agenda was the awarding of the restaurant concession at the Golf Course to a different firm. Another item of interest was a resolution based on former Councilman Irving Gall's request at a previous meeting. The Borough is askinig for cooperation from various municipalities and State officials to petition the President of the United states and Congress to remove and expunge the medicare from the National Medicare Program.
