Many people have driven by the Westfield Garden State Plaza Shopping Center and wondered what all the construction was about. www.ParamusPost.com stopped off at the Westfield Management Office and obtained a copy of their phasing plan. Very interesting!
After a long legal battle with the Borough of Paramus, the shopping center was finally allowed to start construction for their planned expansion. This expansion includes a sixteen-screen state of the art movie theater, two sit-down restaurants and additional specialty stores. Construction began in January of 2006. Hopefully everything will be set by May of 2006. Considerate of their neighbors, the GSP has stated that they will block off access to GSP Plaza Way on Sundays from the theater.
Visible changes are the moving of the bus terminal to the west parking area, fencing off of the south parking area to accommodate the massive construction vehicles required to make this expansion possible, creating new traffic patterns and parking areas, while keeping shopper discomfort to a minimum.
The construction end involves relocating utilities, constructing retaining walls, new storm drainage and electrical service as well as curbs and handicap easy access.
