Children's Aid and Family Services Celebrates “The Week of the Young Child”

Turrell Child Care & Early Learning Center Opens Doors to Politicians, Community Members

(Paramus, NJ) March 27, 2006 î º Turrell Child Care & Early Learning Center, a division of Children's Aid and Family Services, along with hundreds of other early childhood programs throughout the state, are celebrating The Week of the Young Child, from April 2 – 8, 2006. Events scheduled for the week are aimed at educating the public about early learning, and how quality child care and preschool programs can influence a child’s chances for success in school and in life.

On Monday, April 3, from 6:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m, Sandy Richards, director of daycare services, will present a workshop at Turrell for new parents. The workshop, “How to Change a Diaper and the Top 10 Things Every Parent Should Know” will provide important tips and other critical information to parents to help ensure the healthy development of their children.

During this hands-on, free workshop, parents will be able to participate in diaper changing demos, learn to understand their children’s different cries, receive useful tip sheets to take home, and have the opportunity to take a tour of the child care center.

"Early learning experiences are crucial to the growth and development of young children," says Ms. Richards. "The Week of the Young Child offers opportunities for all of us to recognize and better understand the importance of the early years, as we work together to build a better future for all children."
Additionally, on Thursday, April 6, Bergen County Executive Dennis McNerney will visit Turrell Child Care & Early Learning Center to read to the children in an effort to bring awareness to the importance of quality childcare and preschool programs.

"We are opening our doors so the public will know and understand how families depend on quality education and care, which help children get a great start and bring lasting benefits to our society as a whole," says Robert B. Jones, Ph.D., president & CEO, Children's Aid and Family Services. "This week is a time to recognize the people, programs and policies that are helping to build a brighter future for all New Jersey children.”

Since its establishment more than 30 years ago, Turrell Child Care & Early Learning Center has become Bergen County’s childcare center of choice for thousands of families. Turrell, a fully licensed, accredited, nonprofit child care center, serves children 8 weeks to kindergarten. It features large sunny classrooms, an age-appropriate comprehensive curriculum, and freshly prepared nutritional meals and snacks.
