Mayor - Council 03-28-2006 There were two general highlights of the Mayor and Council meeting. One was recognition of Shinae Hyun, a library intern from Korea . Shinae was introduced by Len LoPinto, head librarian and awards given to her by Councilwoman Connie Wagner. The second was recognition of the Shim family of KiKu Restaurant at 365 Route 17 South.

At their opening the family had donated $10,000 to the Paramus Museum and the mayor stated that he had also been given a key by the family for a donation box in their restaurant. When it is opened, the proceeds will also go to the Paramus Museum.. That key is safely placed in his desk. Members of the museum board were on hand to acknowledge the award, Fritz Behnke and his son Fred shared the spotlight while former Mayor Cliff Gennarelli stayed in the background along with other members.

Paramus now has a new official map and Don Cerulli was appointed Deputy Borough Clerk. Planning for a spectacular 4th of July, a contract with International Fireworks Mfg. Co was awarded. It is difficult to imagine something more beautiful than the 2005 display. Toward that goal, the 4th of July Committee is having a Comedy Night Fund Raiser on Saturday, April 1st at the IBEW Building at 63 West Century Road. It is a BYOB/BYOF (food) function with the doors opening at 7 PM; Showtime 8 PM. Three comedians from NYC’s top comedy clubs will be there. Tickets $30.00 per person.

Councilman Rich Conte reminded everyone that April 15th starts the No Smoking ban in restaurants and other public places. Councilwoman Wagner mentioned that the Cultural Arts Council will debut this year at the Paramus High School on April 11th. (See our calendar events)

In mentioning the proposed budget that Council President Frank Ciambrone brought up, the mayor stated that it was still going to be re-worked to reduce the new assessments. He stated that Paramus officials want to give you the services you need at a cost that you can afford.
