Today, Sunday, was the grand re-opening of the Joseph Cipolla Senior Center on Farview Avenue. Many seniors came out for this gala event as well as officials from Paramus, Bergen County and New Jersey State. In addition to these officials, there were many Paramus help departments on hand to guide and inform the participants. Mayor Tedesco introduced everyone and had to admit to a ‘Senior Moment’
In introducing Councilwoman Wagner, he referred to her as the Council Liaison to the Senior Center. Actually, newly elected Councilman Lou Romano is the liaison. Connie Wagner was last year’s liaison and is still serving in that capacity with the Walter Behnke Senior Housing Complex.
Among the departments there were the Health Department, Police Department, Ambulance Corps, Tax Assessor (James Anzevino ), Fire Prevention and many of the organizations that headquarter in the Senior Center.
NJ Senator Joe Coniglio mentioned that pretty soon he would be ready to join the center. This prompted an across the room outcry from Valerie, his wife, saying that she was too young yet. County Executive Dennis McNerney mentioned that although Lou was the present liaison, it was Connie Wagner who badgered him for funds for the center. Connie also mentioned that they had just gotten a $5,000.00 donation from IBM towards obtaining new computers. (That made Sr. Ctr. Teacher Lorraine Costello very happy) Surrogate Michael R. Dressler spoke briefly to the assemblage and stated that the Surrogate’s Office is there to help.
Mayor Tedesco greeted all the dignitaries, both past and present, but admitted to another ‘Senior Moment’. He neglected to introduce our Police Chief, Fred Corrubia. Another small oversight, when he mentioned the recently built Bocci Courts, they were built by the Paramus Rotary Club in conjunction with the Shade Tree & Parks Department. (Of course I belong to the Rotary Club) Mayor Tedesco praised Eileen McDowell for all her efforts in keeping the Senior Center worthy of Paramus.
