Dr. Judith K. Winn, President of Bergen Community College, honored faculty and staff members for their outstanding service to the College at a luncheon ceremony held on Monday, May 1, 2006 at Bergen Community College in Paramus, N.J.
“It gives me great pleasure today, to have this opportunity to
acknowledge and thank the nominees and recipients for your hard work
and commitment to the College,†said Dr. Winn. “The recipients being
honored today characterize the outstanding people that support the
mission of the College and represent Bergen at its very best.â€
Those honored include Nancy Carr, Ridgewood, Director of Specialized Services and Director of the Center for Collegiate Deaf Education; Carla Fleming, Fair Lawn, of the Buildings and Grounds department; Frederick Golub, Elmwood Park, a professor of Counseling and Guidance and Robert Papp, New Milford, a Technical Assistant with Media Technologies.
Nancy Carr of Ridgewood,
Director of Specialized Services and Director of the Center for
Collegiate Deaf Education, is respected and admired for her dedication,
compassion, perseverance and professionalism as she directs the Office
of Specialized Services (OSS) which helps the over 2,000 students with
disabilities at Bergen. She also teaches, serves on numerous
committees, conducts workshops and events, and has been responsible for
securing over $600,000 in grants for the work of the OSS. Through her
guidance, the OSS continues to help students with special needs to
attain their educational goals.
A valued member of the Buildings and Grounds department, Carla Fleming of Fair Lawn
is praised by all for her attention to detail and for going above and
beyond the norm in her duties. The areas of the campus buildings for
which she is in charge frequently receive compliments for their
exceptional cleanliness and organization. In addition to her duties at
the College, Carla is known for devoting many hours of her free time as
a volunteer with community service organizations—especially those which
serve military veterans. Carla is a role model at the College, and an
inspiration in her community.
With 37 years of service to his credit, Professor Frederick Golub of Elmwood Park
is a true cornerstone of Bergen Community College. He is highly
regarded as a counselor and an advisor by students, faculty and staff
and his knowledge of and commitment to the College are legendary.
During his tenure at Bergen, he has served on every major academic
committee at the College and is currently the Vice President of the
Faculty Senate. Professor Golub’s ability to understand and connect
with students, his compassion, his fairness, and his willingness to
help has made him an invaluable part of the College.
Robert Papp of New Milford
is a technician with the College’s Media Technologies department. He
works with audio-visual systems and is in charge of setting up for many
of the events on campus. He handles jobs ranging from the Café
Bergen—the evening concert series featuring performances by visiting
artists—to setting up conference rooms for meetings. His skill and
reliability are such that he has been assigned to handle the technology
set up for every monthly meeting of the Board of Trustees of the
College. He is valued at Bergen because he can be trusted to do the job
properly, every time.
Bergen Community College is a public
two-year coeducational college, enrolling more than 14,000 students in
Associate in Arts, Associate in Science, and Associate in Applied
Science degree programs, and certificate programs. More than 10,000
students are enrolled in non-credit, professional courses through the
Division of Continuing Education, the Institute for Learning in
Retirement, and the Philip J. Ciarco Jr. Learning Center, located at
