The Saddle River Valley Music Association presented its Spring Concert on Friday, May 12, 2006 at the Cavalinni School in Upper Saddle River. Their renditions were well received by the audience and Conductor Harley Streiff once again displayed his musical talent in drawing this group into a homogenized presentation.
A ‘hometown’ orchestra, it draws members from as far away as Pennsylvania. These players practice every Wednesday evening at the school and their dedication shows itself in these concerts. Composed of 31 members plus Harley Streiff, they presented a wide variety of songs written by Kenneth Alford (Colonel Bogey – March) to Franz von Zuppe ( Poet & Peasant – Overture).
Some of the other authors were M. Moussorgsky ( A Night on Bald Mountain ), Pierre Leemans ( Marche des Parachutistes Belges ), Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (Horn Concerto #3 in E flat ) with soloist presentations by Lawrence Zaidan on the tuba., James Swearingen ( Novena – Rhapsody for Band ), Leroy Anderson ( The Irish Washerwoman ) and George Gershwin ( an American in Paris ).
