Paramus Elks Lodge 2001 Students in Government

Representing the Paramus Elks Lodge was Chip Morgan. Chip presented the students to the audience and held a question and answer program for them prior to having the youth group take office. He explained the procedures for selecting them and announced that after the Junior Council Meeting, they would return to the Elks Lodge on Route 17 where there would be additional presentations.

When Mayor Tedesco and the regular council members arrived, they stood behind their ‘replacements’ and guided them in the meeting procedures. At one point they arranged for a tie among the junior council people to show that the Mayor only votes in case of a tie.

Mayor Tedesco made some comments about questions posed in the afternoon session, among them being dress code for the evening performance. When Councilman Keith Zakheim learned that his ‘replacement’ didn’t have a jacket on, ‘Sir Galahad’ Zakheim took his off and placed it around his alternate.

This program is in its 17th year of sponsorship by the Elks and Chip Morgan has been very devoted to it. Senator Joseph Coniglio attended and was invited to make remarks to the group. He did so with his usual aplomb, addressing the group collectively and individually.
