Working up through the ranks, Kevin Smith followed in his father and
brother’s footsteps (he has 5 siblings). A cop’s cop, a man who has
knowledge of the workings of the Paramus Police Department, Captain
Smith fits the ideal of what the Paramus Police Department represents
especially to him. Sixty hour work weeks are the norm rather than the
exception.
Many townspeople know him as the ‘Jack in the Box’ who caught a gas attendant bilking senior citizens of money. Many people know Kevin Smith as indicated by the warm welcome he received at the re-opening of the Paramus Senior Center. Even more people and youngsters know him as ‘Coach’.
Captain Smith’s rise to Division Commander entails being in charge of the detective Division, the Juvenile Division, BCI ( Bureau of Crime Identification) and the Anti Crime Unit. This aggressive and proactive leader claims that he owes his success to the men in his division. Of course working 60 hours a week and a motto: “whatever it takes†is a factor as well.
While his is presently a desk job, he intends to change that and get out with the people that report to him,. In order to keep ahead of trends, he feels it is imperative that he get out in the field. Some of the events that have happened in his area involve apprehending a GPS thief and a tire theft. These adhere to his theory that innovative and “do what it takes’ methods will help win out.
Married to Tina, and having two sons, Brandon (12) and Tyler (9) the Coach lives in Paramus and dedicates himself to Recreation sports like football, baseball and wrestling. He also plays softball alongside his friend Dr.Tom Riebesell. Participating in Paramus organizations, Kevin is a member of the Knights of Columbus and Paramus Elks Lodge 2001.
