Paramus Firemen and Police Softball
For the first time in 12 years, the Paramus firemen beat out the police officers in a highly contested softball game. Fighting back from a six to one score, the firemen battled their way to a well deserved victory. The final score was 15 to 11.
Both sides made some beautiful plays and catches, but this year the Fire Department won out.
Councilman Rich Labarbiera was there to cheer them on. Mayor James Tedesco was also present with Renee, his wife, as was Councilwoman Connie Wagner with her husband Richard.
It was a pleasure to see Chief Fred Corrubia, Deputy Chief Rick Carey and many other members of the Paramus Police Department cheering their team on. Denis Niland’s father, Joe, was sitting with Don Adler and his wife. Joe Niland had to root for both sides since he is the Fire Chaplain yet has son Brian playing on the police team
Filling in for vacationing Bill Comery was his assistant, Joe Sexton who was there to make sure that everything at the Cliff Gennarelli Sports Complex functioned.
In the background, fireworks from other towns bespeckled the darkened sky. Paramus fireworks will be after the Block Party on Sunday at the Cliff Gennarelli Sports Complex.
According to Mike Blitzstein, this was the first time in 12 years that the firemen won. When asked about how long this annual game has been going on, he couldn't recall. Does anyone remember?
