Westfield Garden State Shopping Center donated $20,000 dollars to the Paramus Cultural Arts Council. In return, the Council will call the band shell the Westfield Bandshell to thank them for their sponsorship for the year 2006 productions. Official opening will be Tuesday, July 11th featuring The Moonlighters.
This past Monday night was an unofficial opening of the band shell and thanks were given to Vornado/Bergen Town Center who donated $5,000 to the Cultural Arts Council. Vornado sponsored the Paramus Community Orchestra on Monday evening as a part of the four day 4th of July town wide celebration.
Under the direction of Judy Wilkes, the conductor, the 60 piece orchestra presented: The Star Spangled Banner, Battle Hymn of the Republic, Fiddler on the Roof, I Dreamed a Dream from ‘Les Miserables’, Highlights from Wicked, The Phantom of the Opera, Memory from ‘Cats’,
West Side Story, Chicago, Evita, Some Enchanted Evening from ‘South Pacific’, Saturday Night Waltz from ‘Rodeo, America the Beautiful and ended with The Stars and Stripes Forever.
Approximately 500 people attended this beautiful presentation and gave a standing ovation to Judy Wilkes and the Orchestra. Cultural Council leader Valerie Coniglio introduced Mayor James Tedesco and Council liaison Connie Wagner.
Further presentations at the Westfield Bandshell starting at 7:30 Pm (unless noted) will be: Tuesday July 18 .. Kenny Vance & the Planatones, Friday July 21 .. The Paramus Community Orchestra, Tuesday July 25 .. The Mahoney Brothers & Juke Box Jamboree, Tuesday August 1 .. New York Swing, Tuesday August 8th .. Total Soul and Tuesday August 15th (at 8:30 PM) Family Movie Under the Stars.
