Police Officer Vincent Pepe
It took a lot to get a broad smile out of this dedicated police officer. It occurred during our interview when, after stating that he had served 10 years with the Police Department but has worked for the Borough for 20 years. Vincent who is known as Vinnie by his co-workers has worked for the Shade Tree and Parks Department and the Paramus Municipal Court. I asked him why he became an officer, his eyes rolled back reflectively, that winning smile came forth and he stated “I always wanted to become a police officer. My lifelong dream.”

A member of the Traffic Division, some of his responsibilities are; Investigating motor vehicle hit & runs, radar traffic control which includes setting up the radar trailer, scheduling the five duty impound towers for rotation, maintaining the police impounds, filing for junk titles, and maintaining the police bicycles. At times Vinnie has patrolled on bicycle. In addition Vinnie is one of three certified child safety technicians for the Department. Officer Pepe urges all parents to contact their police department to make sure that their child safety seats are properly installed. In this interest, he and his partners have traveled around the borough showing parents the proper procedures to ensure that their children will be safe.

His day to day responsibilities after checking his messages and e-mails include: checking on the school guards, and covering a post if a guard is out, operating the speed trailer which shows the drivers their ground speed ( a good deterrent ) and is in the process of helping to revamp the Paramus Borough Traffic Code which dates back ad infinitum. Also checking on traffic related problems, including road construction and site obstruction complaints. Vinnie is one of two officers trained on the Segway, a one person crowd control vehicle.

Quite recently he was pictured backing up Chief Corrubia in a Muscular Dystrophy ‘arrest’. He and the Chief ‘arrested’ Sheriff Leo P. McGuire and wouldn’t let him out of ‘jail’ until the Sheriff raised enough money from his friends to make a substantial donation to Muscular Dystrophy.

Vinnie is married to Debbie, a nurse. They have a loving family who are going through the Paramus school system. A long time resident of Paramus, he now lives two houses away from where he was brought up next to his mother’s and sister’s houses.

Paramus can be proud to have dedicated police officers like Vincent Pepe.
