Senior Picnic
Amidst a cloud of smoke and shielded by a screened in area, I heard hellos coming my way as I arrived at the Senior Center. When the corner was rounded, there were Pat O’Brien and Ralph Amato cooking hamburgers on the outdoor grill. Just then Sam Casiello came through the light rain with a tray and accompanied by Jenna, his granddaughter. Since the picnic tables were empty, it was easy to discern that the people were inside.

Taking the elevator up, I walked into a room crowded with tables. There was Eileen McDowell in the kitchen with her helpers dishing out food to those in line. Just about every table was filled. Dom Barbera was among the first to say ‘Hello Mel’. Later on I saw Louise Suppo, Kay and Frank Garcia and many more whose names escape me.

One might call this an Eileen McDowell Production. Everything went off smoothly, there was plenty of picnic food: hot dogs with mustard and sauerkraut, hamburgers, sausage, corn, mushrooms, desserts, coffee and ice cream. Music was supplied by DJ Ron who played a medley of oldies mixed with some new. His music was appreciated by the many couples who danced on the dance floor.
