Council meeting 7/25/06
State Senator Joe Coniglio, Assemblywoman Joan Voss and Assemblyman Bob Gordon were at the Mayor and Council meeting to present Mayor Tedesco with a check for $74,871.00. This money was designated for Emergency Management and the 9-1-1 program. It was quite timely since the recent lightning storm had damaged some of the 9-1-1 equipment at Police Headquarters. Sen. Coniglio promised more to come!

With a strong show of support, Allan Alvarez was sworn in as our newest police officer. Chief Corrubia, Deputy Chief Cary, Lieutenant Jim Sheehan and training officer Patrolman Rich Erhardt were on hand as Borough Clerk Ian Shore administered the oath. Mayor Tedesco explained that the newest member, a military veteran, to our police family had undergone training at his own expense. He also gave PO Alvarez’s background. Allan’s wife was on hand and gave her husband a big hug as they left the swearing in area.

Fire Chief Kevin Sheehan displayed the newest cameras acquired by the Fire Department and passed them among the council members. Mayor Tedesco claimed credit for purchasing the first cameras (the yellow one) while he was Fire Chief. Kevin explained that these new cameras were not only much less in cost, but highly effective technology wise. Our Mayor explained that with these new cameras, not only were the firemen safer but the condition of the fire origin could be determined without first having to tear down a wall or break a door.

Jim Tedesco explained that although there was a fire being attended to during the meeting, Chief Sheehan had visited the Council to show them the updated technology. Jim stated that with these cameras there was less danger of back draft or flashovers thus making it safer for our volunteer firemen.

On another note, Tedesco said that he has been meeting with neighboring towns regarding sharing services and keeping our costs and thus our taxes down. Keeping costs down was also the thrust of an investigation into employee drug medications. A newly adopted program will lower the costs by $80,000.00

Just as Mayor Tedesco was about to bang the gavel ending the meeting, Councilman Lou Romano stopped him. Cultural Council president Valerie Coniglio came rushing in and gushingly told of the success of the Tuesday Bandshell presentation. What a pleasant way to end a meeting.
