Symphony at Paramus Bandshell
Rain interfered with the previous date for the Paramus Community Orchestra. After many phone calls between Connie Wagner and Conductor Judy Wilkes, Wednesday night, July 26th was chosen. Even though this was the night after ‘Total Soul’ played, Cultural Council music won out for the residents. After introductions by Tony Bucco and Connie Wagner, Judy Wilkes took over and the band played on. Judy announced several changes.
Several of the musicians had other dates scheduled, but all the chairs were filled. Sponsors for the evening’s entertainment were Citibank and the Paramus Public Library. The band started off with ‘The Magnificent Seven by Elmer Bernstein, played ‘Pirates of Caribbean’, ‘Mask of Zorro’, ‘Exodus’ and many more songs.
Although the crowd looked to be about 200 to start, as time went by it doubled. In ones, threes and fives, the patrons came walking in. Considering the weather and the change of dates, attendance was good. The Cultural Council arranged for bus service between the high school parking lot and the Bandshell (including chairs) but many residents preferred to walk over. As usual, our police department was on hand to make sure that they were safe.
A blessed boon during this hot spell was the ice cream truck parked in the library parking lot offering cold drinks as well.
Next Tuesday will bring the Mahoney Brothers. Don’t forget to bring chairs and/or blankets. In case of rain, the venue will be changed. It will be announced here.
