After reviewing 2,000 entries of children ages 6 to 12 from Hawaii to Rhode Island, Auntie Anne’s Pretzels announced 11-year-old Daniel Brocco from Tenafly, NJ as one of 20 national finalists in Auntie Anne’s Pretzel Perfect Tongue Twister Contest.

Daniel twisted and contorted his tongue to say “Picky Pretzel People Pick Pretzel Perfect Pretzels.”

Along with announcing Daniel from The Tenafly Middle School as one of 20 top finalists, Molly Nemer (Knee-mer) from Mendota Heights, MN, was declared the National Pretzel Perfect Tongue Twisting Champion. To celebrate the tongue twister winners and all contest entries, Auntie Anne’s is hosting “Free Pretzel Day” for everyone in America on Saturday, August 19 from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

“Daniel’s speed and passion made him stand out above other contestants, ” said Fran Capo, Guinness Book of World Records’ Fastest Talking Female and judge of the tongue twister contest. “We had a blast judging the entries, and being known as the ‘Fast Talker Extraordinaire,’ this was the perfect combination.”

Other judges included Sam Beiler, president and CEO of Auntie Anne’s, Inc. and Amanda Putney, Auntie Anne’s fastest pretzel roller.
Pretzel Perfect Prizes.

For placing in the top 20, Daniel will receive a Pretzel Perfect party for his school class and a $20 gift card to any Auntie Anne’s location. As the grand prize winner, Molly will reign as the National Pretzel Perfect Tongue Twisting Champion and will receive a $2,500 scholarship, a $500 shopping spree and a year’s supply of Auntie Anne’s Pretzels.

On August 19, Auntie Anne’s expects to give away 1 million pretzels while hosting the nationwide celebration called “Free Pretzel Day” in honor of all the children who participated in the contest throughout the summer. The festivities will be held at every Auntie Anne’s store throughout the country from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. During this time, anyone can walk up to Auntie Anne’s and receive a free Original or
Cinnamon Sugar pretzel.

From June 5 through July 23, Auntie Anne’s visited 34 malls across the nation inviting children ages 6 – 12 to submit video entries reciting the Pretzel Perfect Tongue Twister – “Picky Pretzel People Pick Pretzel Perfect Pretzels.” Children submitted entries at these mall locations or by mailing in home videos or DVDs.

All Tongue Twister participants received a bookmark, a voucher for a free Auntie Anne’s pretzel and Auntie Anne’s donated one book in the child’s name to his or her school library. Auntie Anne’s is donating 1,130 copies of The Bears on Hemlock Mountain and 968 copies of The Spiderwick Chronicles: The Field Guide.

“These kids all did such a great job and we’re very proud of their efforts,” said Sam Beiler. “We thought what better way to give back and show our thanks to all the kids who participated and to all our customers than by hosting a Free Pretzel Day.”
