Doan ask!
On the return trip, I broke down on the NJ Turnpike on the up-crest of
a bridge. PTL I had gotten over to the right shoulder, but it was still
very narrow. The 96 Nissan Sentra .. stick .. chugged bravely up the
incline before giving up the ghost.
My hazard lights wouldn’t work because the battery was dead. PTL, a State Trooper pulled up behind me and when he learned the problem, stayed behind me with his gumballs flashing. After a 50 minute wait, the licensed turnpike tower came with a flatbed and took me off and to his base. From there I had to wait another hour for AAA to arrive to tow me to my service station.
In the meantime, worrying about my cellphone battery going dead also, had a prolonged discussion with AAA on the phone. Seems that my daughter had paid the regular membership (3 mile towing) and not the +4 (100 miles) which costs $25 more. After much discussion, they agreed to give me the +4 but only if I paid it right there .. in the middle of the tow yard. I didn’t have a credit card so they obliged by calling three of my daughters until we found one available. She paid the money .. from Long Island .. and I saved about $100 in towing.
When I got back to my service station, we checked the battery and it showed charge capability. It was the alternator!
That was yesterday … the vehicle was ready at 8 PM, but when I went to get it at 9:30, the battery was dead … again. Hopefully it will be fully charged when I take possession this morning,. After paying a humongous alternator replacement bill.
And you thought I was sleeping . huh!!!
At least I didn’t have the cellphone battery go dead . I used my in car charger while in the two flatbeds!!!
