Dr. Maria C. Fressola, of Hewitt, and Professor Sharon J. Zaucha, of Hasbrouck Heights, both Associate Professors of Nursing at Bergen Community College were recently approved as Certified Nurse Educators (CNE) by the National League for Nursing. They received the certification after passing the highly competitive and rigorous CNE examination to distinguish themselves as two of only 287 Certified Nurse Educators in all of the United States. The Certified Nurse Educator designation validates their expertise in both the fields of nursing and of education.

Certified Nurse Educator Program serves to recognize excellence in the
specialized area of nursing education,†said Dr. Gary F.
Porter, Academic Vice President of Bergen Community College.
“I congratulate Dr. Fressola and Professor Zaucha on their
achievements. Bergen is indeed fortunate to have two Certified Nurse
Educators on our faculty.â€
Dr. Fressola is a graduate
of Teachers College, Columbia University (M.A., M.Ed., and Ed.D.), Pace
University (B.S.), and Misericordia Hospital School of Nursing
(Diploma). In addition to Bergen Community College, she has also taught
at Ramapo College, Fairleigh Dickinson University, and Kean University,
and has been an educator and administrator at numerous area hospitals
including: Bronx Municipal Hospital and St. Barnabas Hospital in the
Bronx, New York Hospital Cornell Medical Center in Manhattan, and
Memorial General Hospital in Union. She continues to work as an
Emergency Trauma Nurse for the Hackensack University Medical
Center.
Professor Zaucha is a graduate of Seton Hall
University (M.S.N.), Jersey City State University (B.A.), and St.
Francis School of Nursing (Diploma). Prior to her position at Bergen,
she worked in a variety of capacities at St. Francis School of Nursing,
including Director, Course Coordinator, and Instructor. She began her
nursing career at St. Francis Hospital where she was a nurse in the
Pediatrics department, ultimately becoming Head Nurse. Professor Zaucha
is the treasurer of the St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing Alumni
Association.
Bergen Community College is a public
two-year coeducational college, enrolling more than 14,000 students in
Associate in Arts, Associate in Science, and Associate in Applied
Science degree programs, and certificate programs. More than 10,000
