Valentine Day
Snow and ice did not stop the Paramus CEO (Community Environmental Organization) from presenting Paramus seniors with an acclaimed festival. These high school students planned a gala to be remembered. The walls and pillars were decorated with hearts and balloons, the tables with appealing covers. The seniors filed in with romantic music in the air and .. their hearts! The menu was extensive:

Heart shaped sushi, Macaroni Salad, Garden Salad and hors d’oeuvres were the appetizers. The entrée consisted of Rotisserie chicken with veggies and potatoes as well as Chicken Parmigian pasta along with dinner rolls. For the last course, dessert, heart shaped cookies and brownies a la mode were served to each patron. Not only did Senior Center Executive Eileen McDowell and Rose Whitehead help out, but Councilwoman Connie Wagner brought her daughter and son along to assist.

Food alone was not their intent; festivities were offered. The students did dances, both native and modern, presented a slide show and for the piece de resistance had 6 married couples come up to the front for a quiz show. Too bad Council liaison Denis Niland didn’t bring his wife! Separated from their spouses, the CEO people asked questions of the men and women to see how well they knew their mate’s habits and preferences. There was so much fun and good natured kidding that the students gave them all prizes. The seniors behaved like schoolkids taking the decorative balloons and bouncing them from person to person and table to table.

As a parting gift, net packed ‘Kiss’ style bags were passed out. One must give credit to the youth of today for their desire to serve the community.
