Our Ambulance Corps stands proud

March 1, 2007 the Paramus Ambulance Corp changed its structure to provide better response to multiple calls in the Borough Of Paramus. While the percentage of answered calls was extremely high, as compared to call volume thru out the state, Paramus was experiencing the same issues with volunteers that all ambulance corps are plagued with, not enough members when there are multiple calls.
To resolve this, the Borough changed the incentive program from a monthly stipend to a hourly rate. Crews are now required to be in quarters or with the ambulance at all times, day and night. The last crew of the old system, pictured here, have varied degrees of experience and seniority, but all hold one thing in common, and that is they are proud members of the Paramus Ambulance Corp.
Pictured left to right are John Pecoraro, Maureen Lodge, Melissa Baker, Peter Pecoraro and Madeline Baker. Maureen Lodge and Maddy Baker are past Captain’s of the Paramus Ambulance Corp, and John Pecoraro is the current Chief of Paramus Rescue. All of the members of the final crew under the stipend system are both members of Paramus Ambulance Corp and members of Paramus Rescue Squad, separate organizations in the Borough of Paramus.
Paramus Ambulance Corp handles in excess of 3500 calls a year, manning four (4) BLS ambulances, a Mass Casualty trailer, and one (1) Crew Chief’s vehicle. Call volume increases every year, with the malls and the nursing homes in town being major contributors to the emergency calls. Trained EMT’s staff the ambulances, and respond to all medical calls in the Borough.
