IBEW Local 164 showcases electrical and telecommunications professions at Essex

Students Learn About Rewarding Opportunities in Building Trades
PASSAIC, N.J., June 20, 2007 – Essex High School students recently explored the lucrative and rewarding careers being offered by the electrical and telecommunications industries at Career Day. The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 164 provided hands-on exhibits to offer insight regarding the five-year electrical and four-year telecommunications apprenticeship training programs available to high school graduates.
Paul Lagana, Local 164’s assistant training director (seated), explained the wide range of benefits associated with apprenticeship training, such as an hourly wage for students while pursuing their studies, lifelong job placement and exceptional medical and retirement benefits.
The programs, offered at Local 164’s state-of-the-art Training Academy in Paramus and a satellite facility in Toms River, are extremely rigorous. To be eligible, applicants must be at least 17 years old; possess a high school diploma or GED; have one year of algebra and a valid driver’s license.
