CAPITAL FUNDING FOR CHILD ADVOCACY CENTERS
Child Advocacy Centers combine the efforts of county prosecutors, the Division of Youth and Family Services (DYFS) and local hospitals to provide high-quality joint investigations and treatment of child abuse or neglect in a child-friendly atmosphere. All 21 counties in New Jersey have a Child Advocacy Center (CAC). DCF awarded grants to the following centers in five counties to establish new advocacy centers or improve existing ones.

HOME VISITATION AND NURSE FAMILY PARTNERSHIP
Eight community agencies have been awarded a total of $2.4 million in grants through DCF’s Home Visitation Initiative to expand or establish new programs to provide primary child abuse prevention and early intervention services. The initiative involves two programs, Nurse Family Partnership, which targets first-time mothers and families, and Healthy Families, which serves parents who have other children and may be overburdened by specific stressors known to contribute to the risk of child abuse and neglect. Both programs help advance prevention initiatives promoted by DCF, including vital parenting skills, such as coping with a crying baby to prevent shaken baby syndrome.

POST ADOPTION CONTRACT AND PERMANENCY SUPPORT SERVICES
Children who are adopted often struggle with a sense of loss and trauma which can lead to behavioral and developmental problems. To help minimize the difficulties for adopted kids, DCF is funding a Post Adoption Contract (PAC) program which is a network of contracted agencies with adoption expertise that will help adoptive families access a variety of adoption-related support services. DCF will expand the support services it currently funds to two specific populations: (1) adopted teens and (2) children who leave the DYFS system through Kinship Legal Guardianship (KLG). These services may include in-home counseling, group support, coaching/mentoring, family advocacy and family respite.
