As I drove to the entrance, a huge sign was there POOL CLOSED. Uh uh ... what happened now on one of the hottest days ~ we can't use the pool. A note was posted on the gate "pool will open at 3pm". Okay ... what'll I do now?
My afternoon was planned to be at the pool. Can't spend the day in my air conditioned apartment, could I? Went home, ate lunch, sat at the computer, whiling away the time until 3pm.
At a quarter to 3 so many vehicles filled the parking lot ~ many with young children anxious to use the pool. Sure enough, at 3pm we were allowed in.
It was announced that the intermediate pool was closed, but our huge other pool was open, but crowded with people! Also announced, and I made sure that the seniors were aware "no jumping or diving into the pool was allowed today"! We laughed and had fun, spending most of our time in the water.
When it was time for me to leave, I asked the pool manager, Tim Donohue, to explain in layman's terms why the pool was closed.
There was an electrical failure. The motor that pumps water into the pool blew out around midnight. The motor which sucks water from the pool continued pumping as the filter overflowed, and water drained out. So the pool had to be refilled up to the level it's kept at. The kind fire department lent 2 huge hoses for the fillup, which helped to speed up the process.
So there ya have it! Another day in the wonderful life of "the retired" at the Paramus Town Pool!
