Mel: Once again we reach out to all of our friends at "www.ParamusPost.com", the fastest game in town. Unfortunately you missed the "event of the night" held last evening at Paramus Catholic. A large crowd (estimated at over 200) appeared to voice their concerns and opposition to "Enchantment at Paramus". DEP officials started the public hearing at a little after 7pm and heard comments from elected officials, environmental groups, and a large number of residents and concerned citizens, many who traveled great distances to appear.

We at Save Paramus Wetlands have provided some brief information and will continue to update you. We thank you once again for your valuable coverage...

We would like to THANK everybody who was able to take time out of their busy summer schedules and attend the NJ DEP public hearing that was held at Paramus Catholic on Thursday night (8/2). Thanks to all of the elected officials, environmental groups, members of the media, and all of the concerned citizens who showed up in force. Your appearance and support was, and is, greatly appreciated. We cannot thank you enough for your attendance and comments and for voicing your concerns and opposition to “Enchantment at Paramus”.

It was nice to see everybody (some for a second time) and place faces to many of our e-mail addresses. Paramus Catholic proved to be an ideal venue and we commend our local officials and the DEP for picking a location that could accommodate the public. As Mayor Tedesco and others suggested, it is important that we continue our efforts and never give up. We ask that everybody continue to spread the word as it is important that we maintain a strong showing at any meetings or hearings (such as Zoning Board of Adjustment) that may be held in the future.

We thank Vincent Mazzei and Cathryn Schaffer (NJ DEP) for their time and patience and the opportunity to be heard. It is our understanding that the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection will continue to review all of the materials related to this application/waiver request and is due to rule by August 30, 2007. We hope that they enforce their rules and regulations and deny the application(s) and hardship waiver. In the interim please take the time to write to the NJ DEP and speak out against JDME’s “Enchantment at Paramus” applications and waiver or any building on this parcel of environmentally sensitive land.

The NJ DEP has advised that the Division of Land Use Regulation will accept written comments from the public postmarked within 15 days following this public hearing. They should be mailed to:

Cathryn Schaffer, Project Manager

Division of Land Use Regulation

501 East State Street

P.O. Box 439

Trenton, New Jersey 08625-0439

A “sample letter” has once again been sent as an attachment and posted on our website in the sample letter(s) section. Feel free to review this brief letter as it includes many items of concern. You may print, sign, and mail it, or change it as you deem fit. You may also take the time to compose your own. Please try to let us know if you mail a letter.

We thank you again for your support, assistance, and efforts, and ask that you keep it up. We will keep you posted and welcome you to check the website, www.saveparamuswetlands.com, or call us (201-967-7699) or e-mail us (concerned@saveparamuswetlands.com) to find out more.
