IBEW Local 164 Training Academy Hosts New OSHA Certification Class
The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 164 recently hosted a 40-hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) class at its Training Academy for 13 electricians and 5 plumbers from the Plumbers U.A. Local 14.
The highly specialized certification program is required for those exposed, or potentially may be exposed, to hazardous substances, including hazardous waste, during clean-up operations. The standard is defined by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
The program is an example of joint training efforts being implemented by IBEW Local 164 to ensure worksite safety for its more than 3,900 electrical and telecommunications members as well as all skilled construction workers on jobsites throughout New Jersey. The Local 164 Training Academy in Paramus and a satellite facility in Toms River, N.J., host an array of on-going apprenticeship, journeyperson and continuing education courses that enable workers to remain abreast of the industry’s latest technology and safety advancements. ###
