DMR Architects completes third educational shared facility project in New Jersey

DMR Architects, one of the largest and most respected full-service architectural firms in the New York/New Jersey metropolitan region, has completed architectural services for the new Pre K-8 Elementary School in Carlstadt, New Jersey.
DMR Architects worked closely with the Carlstadt Board of Education, New Jersey Department of Education, New Jersey School Board Association, district administrators, Carlstadt Elementary School staff and local community to achieve this successful $28.6 million referendum.
DMR was hired after Carlstadt had been defeated on three previous occasions. After meeting with the various stakeholders and community committees, DMR was able to determine that the most efficient solution would be the design and construction of a new state-of-the-art school for both the community and students grades Pre-K-8.
“Carlstadt is another great example of a successful shared services project, stated Lloyd Rosenberg, president, CEO and founder of DMR Architects. “DMR has worked on numerous shared services projects all over New Jersey and we have found that not only does it save tax payers’ money, but it also brings the school board and community closer.”
“Typically, this can be a very long and trying process, but the end result was very satisfying,” stated Frank Legato, superintendent of Carlstadt Schools. “We found DMR to be very helpful and accessible and we truly feel that our school will set the standard for elementary construction for years to come.”
Designed by DMR Architects and built by VRH Construction Corporation, this new 111,000-square-foot neighborhood school will serve 520 students, house 41 classrooms and include an auditorium, cafeteria, media center and two full gymnasiums. The school will be located adjacent to the nearby athletic fields in order to better foster the success of the students and community of Carlstadt, serving them educationally, socially, and recreationally.
From the onset of design, DMR incorporated green building principles to ensure that this new educational facility would be LEEDTM Certified.
The Carlstadt Pre K-8 Elementary School is the third example of a successful shared facility project by DMR Architects. The other two are located in Lyndhurst, New Jersey.
One is a 120,000-square-foot, three-story building that accommodates a six hundred person, student body population. The spaces within this facility were specifically designed so that students could use them during school hours and residents during non-school hours. The other is a new facility that serves the Lyndhurst Board of Education Offices and the Youth Center. This new joint facility is located on the corner of Grant and Fern Avenues, part of the Lyndhurst High School campus.
