Jersey City Theater Center and Arts on the Hudson Host Over 50 Visual Domestic and International Artists and Seven Performing Arts Groups for Dec. 7 Arts Extravaganza! at Canco Lofts
Over 50 artists hailing from Canada, Russia and the United States will present an eclectic mix of visual art at Canco Lofts during Arts Extravaganza!, an art event being held in conjunction with JC Fridays, a citywide day of arts and culture in Jersey City held at the start of every season. The evening celebration of art and artists, taking place from 4 p.m. to midnight on Friday, Dec. 7, will also include theater, dance and musical performances by seven performing arts groups.
Arts Extravaganza! will include an impressive array of artwork from well-known artists in the New York metropolitan area and abroad, a live art auction as well as “Create With Us,” an art activity for children and adults. Visitors will also be treated to musical performances by Sean Walsh & The National Reserve and American Watercolor Movement; a dance workshop and dance performances by New Jersey’s Moe-tion Dance Theater, Montclair State University’s Theater & Dance Department and Freespace Dance group.
JC Fridays was launched in Spring 2005 by a group of Jersey City artists and artist organizations to better promote the arts in the city. Since its inception, JC Fridays has concentrated its events in the city’s downtown. Now, with the relationship formed between the Jersey City Theater Center and Canco Lofts – the condo conversion of the iconic American Can Co. building -- Arts Extravaganza! is expanding this important cultural movement to Jersey City’s revitalized Journal Square neighborhood.
Complimentary refreshments and hors d’oeuvres will be available. Wine, provided by MakeWineWithUs.com, will also be served.
Canco Lofts is providing complimentary shuttle bus service to and from the Journal Square PATH station for the event.
Exhibited work will remain on display at Canco Lofts through Jan. 12, 2008, with a closing reception taking place at 7 p.m. on Jan. 12. After Dec. 7, the exhibition can be viewed by appointment by contacting Olga Levina at olgalevina@verizon.net, or Grigory Gurevich at grigur@netzero.net.
