My 10-year old granddaughter and I bonded once again over the weekend while we watched Christmas videos that I had bought for them years ago when they were little. 12-year old grandson was at a party until 10pm, so it was just her and I, while their mom and dad socialized without their kids, for a change.
Grandma's old-fashioned VCR came in handy for the videos. A terrific, not as popular well-known Christmas video, "Tangerine Bear", was enjoyed just as much by grandma as by granddaughter! It's such a touching story of a teddy bear whose mouth got sewed on upside down while he was being made ... therefore, a sad face his whole life, rather than a smile. After a long while he's shipped from a "50% off misfit table" in a department store, to a little off-the-beaten-path store, and eventually succeeds in belonging to a family. It's great!
We watched our old popular favorites, "Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer" and "Frosty the Snowman".
Then on regular TV we watched the film version of "How the Grinch Stole Christmas". Although we enjoyed it, we both preferred the cartoon version.
But what a terrific evening Grandma and Granddaughter spent together. Does it get any better than that?
Happy Holidays, everybody! And a healthy 2008!
