Charlotte Blake Alston
Charlotte Blake Alston, hailed by The New York Times as presenting "eloquent storytelling," will perform at Bergen Community College on Saturday, February 2, 2008, at 3:00 p.m. in the Anna Maria Ciccone Theatre at Bergen Community College, 400 Paramus Road, Paramus. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for children 17 and under, and are available by calling 201-447-7428. Seating is reserved so advanced ticket purchase is recommended.

Modeling her style after that of the Griot - the keeper of traditions and stories in African villages - Alston will capture the audience with her tales, songs, poems, impersonations and the sounds of traditional African instruments. A former teacher, Alston's performance will spread awareness regarding cultural diversity.

A recipient of many awards and honors, Alston has been recognized by the Pew Fellowship in the Arts - a Philadelphia Center for the Arts and Heritage program awarding grants to artists working in performing, visual and literary disciplines.

The performance is part of Bergen Community College's "This & That from Here & There" Performing Arts series. For ticket information or for a full schedule of events, please call Bergen's Office of Community and Cultural Affairs at 201-447-7428 or visit them on the Web at www.bergen.edu/cca
