Bergen Community College Professor Dr. Roger Opstbaum, an expert on global warming, will lead a citizens meeting to discuss the topic on Saturday, February 2, 2008 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the Moses Family Meeting and Training Center (Technology Education Center, Room 128), 400 Paramus Road, Paramus. All are invited to attend.

Armed with his vast knowledge and years of study, Opstbaum will lead the forum and plans to discuss the science and facts of global warming. He also hopes to encourage conversation regarding solutions to the global dependence on fossil fuels as well. The meeting remains an ideal venue for those confused about global warming - or wishing to learn more - to gain valuable information on the topic.

In addition to the discussion - if weather conditions permit - the Buehler Columbia Amateur Astronomers Association will allow attendees to use the group's solar telescopes for a mid-afternoon viewing. Previously, Dr. Opstbaum worked at the Goddard Institute for Space Studies in New York, where he built models of the atmospheres of Jupiter and Venus and contributed to climate models.

The Association also maintains scheduled viewings of celestial objects every Saturday evening during the College's Spring Semester at 7:30 p.m. in the Emil Buehler Trust Observatory. All are invited to attend. The Observatory includes two state-of-the-art, 16-inch reflecting telescopes in the Technology Education Center. During the evening viewings, visitors receive guided access to the telescopes from the Association's members, which include Bergen professors. In the event of inclement weather, viewings are cancelled.
