Held at the Regency House Hotel on February 2nd, the TAA-NNJ celebrated their 27th annual meeting. Guests of Honor were: US Representative Scott Garrett, Ambassador Kenneth K.M. Liao and NJ Assemblyman Scott Rumana. The keynote speaker was Dr. Bob Yang, President of Formosan Association for Public Affairs. Approximately 250 people attended this business meeting and gala event.
Dr, Bob In-yu Yang was introduced by Dr. Michael Yeun, both good friends of mine. I met Bob in Washington, D.C. last February on the Taiwanese 5 day march '2-28-60' from Philadelphia to D.C. At the time, I was unaware that Bob was a PHD connected with University of Missouri-Kansas City. For that matter, I was unaware of the high education level achieved by many of the Taiwanese people participating in our 228-60 trip. Dr. Yang is an Assistant Dean and Chairman, Council on Evaluation of the medical school among the many titles and organizations to which he belongs.
He covered a full range of subjects Taiwanese accompanied by a PowerPoint presentation. He paid tribute to the attendees who participated in 228-60, myself included. Dr. Bob Yang covered the past, present and future very eloquently and within a relatively short time. His theme: United We Stand – a Modus Operandi for Taiwanese Americans.
We were treated to a violin solo by Sean Kao, songs and instrument playing by the Fairlawn Community Church Choir. Music for accompaniment, Karaoke and dancing was supplied by Paul Yao, Jr. of P. Y. Studio in Pine Brook. E-mail paul@yao.com
Voting took place and the new Board for 2008 was presented.
