By Donna Perkosky Sunday, February 17, 2008, 01:22 PM EST
On Friday, February 29th, teen Joey Rizzolo, founder of Paramus’ “Freedom Walk”, will discuss his experience and sign his book, “20 Steps to a Freedom Walk” at the Paramus Public Library from 7:00pm-9:00pm. Joey organized and chaired Paramus’ first Freedom Walk last year to remember the people who died on September 11th and to thank U.S. service members, past and present. “They risk their lives every day to make American safe and free,” Joey said.
“20 Steps to a Freedom Walk”, written by Rizzolo and illustrated by Jane Cosco, chronicles Joey’s journey, which started in the corridors of East Brook Middle School, led him to meetings with government officials and interviews with local television and radio stations, and culminated in Paramus’ first Freedom Walk on September 9th, 2007. With more than 400 Paramus residents participating, the walk began and ended at Bergen Community College and featured pre-walk addresses by U.S. Rep. Scott Garrett and Paramus Mayor Jim Tedesco.
On February 29th, Joey will autograph his books which will be on sale for $12 a copy. (Cash or checks, please.) This program is free and open to the public and reservations are not required. Light refreshments will be served. For additional information, please call 201-599-1300. If anyone is not able to attend this function and would like to sponsor this year’s Paramus Freedom Walk, please email Joey at Freedomrocks1378@aol.com.
