Java Jitney found its first place in a hospital on the Hackensack University Medical Center (HUMC) Second Street Café menu. The Kosher community inspired the medical center’s decision to offer this new dining option. Java Jitney, a kosher mobile custom catering service, provides fresh home-style and wholesome foods including, hearty soups, assorted salads, dairy sandwiches, grilled veggies, deli hoagies and even sushi.
Everything is made fresh daily and packaged according to strict kosher law with RCBC certification.
“We’re receiving positive feedback. People like the option. It’s definitely a convenience that is well-liked,” said Irma Newdorf of Fair Lawn, assistant director of Nutrition and Food Management at HUMC.
The medical center’s sensitivity and regard for the needs and preferences of its patients, visitors, and employees is evident in the amenities, programs, and services it provides. Always striving to exceed and redefine the exceptional patient experience is a continuing goal.
For 11 years in a row, HUMC has been a Consumer Choice Award Winner –Bergen/Passaic’s Most Preferred Hospital for Overall Quality. The award is based on a survey of more than 140,000 households nationwide by the National Research Corporation of Lincoln, Nebraska.
HealthGrades® named HUMC as one of America’s 50 Best Hospitals for 2007. This designation recognizes hospitals that have demonstrated superior clinical quality over a seven-year time period, based upon an analysis of more than 75 million Medicare patient records from 1999-2005. These hospitals have achieved better survival rates and lower complication rates across dozens of medical procedures and diagnoses, from cardiac care to orthopedic surgery, consistently ranking among the top five percent in the nation for overall clinical outcomes. HUMC is the only healthcare facility in New Jersey, New York, and New England to be named one of America’s 50 Best Hospitals.
