Meeting # 4 - AM Rotary Club extended wider Red Carpet by host IBEW Local 164

When I asked Buzz Dressel, provisional AM Rotary Club member and Business Manager for IBEW Local 164 about having his people procure pastries along with the coffee for our breakfast, he said okay. When I asked him how much we should pay each week, our genial host told us not to worry about it, his organization would take care of it. WOW ..once again.

Bill Comery, Paramus Shade Tree Director, visited us and gave us insight into our two Community Service projects scheduled for Saturday, May 3rd (rain date May 10th) at 10 AM. We will start with the Walter Behnke Senior Housing Complex and move on to the bandshell behind the Library. Pat Whitney, WBSHC Director and potential member, was so elated that she promised to have 'coffee and' for everyone.

A problem exists at the bandshell according to Comery. The ground is too wet for plants to grow so 3 planters would have to be built to accommodate them. Club Community Service Director Deputy Chief 'Rick' Cary said he would look into having them constructed by one of the schools. Anyone wanting to donate supplies for this endeavor should contact Cary at Paramus Police Headquarters.

President Anthony Iacono authorized Happy Dollars collected on Tuesday morning to be donated to the Gift of Life in memory of Chief of Staff John Mosca's father. Our small group collected $76.00 which Treasurer Gary Spivak will transfer to the District Gift of Life funds.. John came in after the meeting and was very touched. After all, this is only the 4th meeting of this new provisional club. Lois Horowitz, a Paramus noon Rotarian, honored us with a visit and was very helpful in explaining the Gift of Life to the group.

The esprit de corps at our meetings is terrific. Everyone is rooting for it to succeed. One new member, Dr. Mayank Gadhia, donated $250.00 to help get the club moving forward. We are so close to the minimum number needed for a charter that the club authorized the purchase of 30 Charter Member pins.

We meet every Tuesday morning, 8:00 AM at the IBEW Local 164 training center, 65 W. Century Road, corner of Robin Road. One has to enter through the back parking lot, the 2nd door on the left. Once inside, keep turning .. left past the restrooms and then right, left into Classroom 101. President Iacono makes sure that the meetings are over by 9 AM.

Look for a story about our new club in the Town News, March 19th edition, Page 4.
