DMR Architects design Maternity Outpatient Center in Hoboken

Hospital in midst of $30 million renovation

DMR Architects, one of the largest and most respected full-service architectural firms in the New York/New Jersey
metropolitan region, has been retained by Hoboken University Medical Center to provide design services in connection with the hospital¹s $30 million renovation and expansion project. The firm¹s assignment will include a
maternity outpatient center at the former site of the hospital¹s human resources department.
The New Jersey Department of Health is reviewing the current plans for the facility, which will include four diagnostic rooms, four ultrasound rooms, a nurses station, a waiting room, public bathrooms and an administrative office.

³The hospital is experiencing significant change with an emergency wing being constructed and various departments relocating,² said DMR Director of Construction Administration Henry Ossi. ³The outpatient center is a relatively small part of the larger project, but it¹s a new and exciting project for us, and a great opportunity to help the hospital address the needs of the community.²

The 4,000 square foot clinic will support the hospital¹s mission of providing state-of-the-art, comprehensive care with a focus on greater
patient satisfaction while addressing a need for more maternity services in the community.

³Much of what needed to be done for the new maternity outpatient clinic was space planning,² Ossi said. ³While layout is important in any design project, the confidential nature of an outpatient center made this aspect of the project even more important than usual.²

Completion of the project is dependent on the Department of Health¹s review of the design drawings. Major renovations at the hospital are expected to be completed in 2009.
