Patriotic and Music Programs, Vital Health Screenings, Offered at The Atrium
The Allendale Community for Mature Living invites the public to enjoy lively music performances, hone driving skills and get important medical screenings at The Atrium, its supportive independent living senior residence. Most programs are free of charge; please note fees for driver safety course and Life Line Screening where applicable. For more information call (201) 818-7979.
Tues., May 27 – Husband-and-wife musical duo The Campbells will entertain residents and guests with their renditions of pop tunes with guitar and vocals at 3 p.m. in the Lounge.
· Thurs., May 29 – The ever-popular Hobbyaires Swing Band will have you swaying to the beat with their repertoire from the 40’s, starting at 3:30 p.m. in the Lounge. The band, which includes senior men from Ridgewood, entertains frequently at The Atrium.
· Thurs., June 12 – Area residents are invited to The Atrium’s “Salute to America” in honor of Flag Day, which falls on the coming Saturday. The one-hour patriotic program starts at 2 p.m. in the Atrium Lobby. It will be led by Petty Officer Jim Cava (U.S.N., Ret.), who served our country in Vietnam and founded Operation Red, White & Blue, an organization devoted to “fostering and upholding our American heritage, principles and patriotism.”
· Mon. & Tues., June 16 & 17 – The Atrium presents the AARP Driver Safety Course from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Cinema. Attendees will review important skills and the latest driving requirements to stay safe on the road. Both classes are required for completion of the course. Refreshments will be served. The cost is $10 and advance reservations are required. Call (201) 818-7979 to pre-register.
· Wed., June 18 – Older area adults are encouraged to sign up for vital life-saving vascular screening and other tests, performed by Life Line Screening Radiology, LLC, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. at The Atrium. These preventative health screenings, aimed at preventing debilitating strokes and uncovering hidden health concerns, will be held in the Cinema and Activities Room. Each test is relatively short and costs between $35 and $45 each, with a special rate available for those who choose to take all five tests. Appointment spaces are limited and pre-registration is required. Seniors who are interested must call (800) 407-4557 to set an appointment time in advance. Registrants will receive a reminder post card and a courtesy call prior to the screening.
· Wed., July 2 – The public is invited to get a jump on Independence Day festivities with a performance by The Saddle River Valley Concert Band starting at 7 p.m. This 40-piece band, led by conductor Harley Streiff, will strike up a patriotic chorus that’s fun for the whole family.
The Allendale Community for Mature Living is located at 85 Harreton Road, off Route 17 South in Allendale, comprising three levels of senior residency.
