When: Thursday, May 22, 11 a.m., outside the health services emergency entrance of the Pitkin Education Building, Bergen Community College, 400 Paramus Road, Paramus.
Who: Bergen President Dr. G. Jeremiah Ryan will preside over the groundbreaking ceremony. Other College officials will join President Ryan along with faculty, professionals and various civic, state, county, and local leaders. Among them, Bergen County Executive Dennis McNerney is scheduled to appear.
Why: The College continues to provide its students with the most updated technologies available. On the heels of the construction of the Technology Education Center and West Hall comes the College’s newest project: an addition and renovation to its science wing. The $12.4 million project designed by Ronald Schmidt and Associates will add nearly 38,000 square feet of space to the College’s existing three floors. The addition will include four chemistry laboratories, two preparation rooms, an organic chemistry laboratory and numerous other amenities. Over 3,000 square feet of existing space (science laboratories) will be renovated. The wing is expected to fully open in the spring of 2010.
