    Bergen Students Earn Foundation Scholarships

    Over $187,000 was awarded to 104 Bergen Community College students during the Bergen Community College Foundation’s eighth annual Scholarship Awards ceremony on April 30. A separate 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, the Foundation raises funds to support student scholarships, faculty and staff development, construction and other special projects and programs. Since its 1982 inception, the Foundation has received over $9.8 million in total contributions

    The following list represents the scholarship award winners, along with their hometowns and award received (hometowns are alphabetized).

    Bergenfield:

    Amna Khan – Ciarco Family Foundation Endowed Scholarship (Awarded to students with a 3.0 minimum GPA); Wilton T. Barney Memorial Scholarship (Awarded to Bergen County residents and future Bergen Community College students who have demonstrated school and community involvement in civil, social or volunteer work and a 2.8 minimum GPA).
    Christy Ortega – Theresa Romano Nursing Scholarship (Awarded to nursing students who have completed at least one semester and have a 3.0 minimum GPA).
    Andrea Quinones – Maura Soehnlein Memorial Scholarship (Awarded to a student – preferably a parent – who has completed at least one semester in the nursing program, maintains a 3.0 minimum GPA, demonstrates good clinical skills and aims to help others).

    Bogota:

    Auguste Desrouilleres – Delta Dental Foundation Scholarship (Awarded to students who have completed their first semester of the dental hygiene program and maintained a 2.5 minimum GPA).
    Tina Jackson – Jorge Blanco Memorial Scholarship (Awarded to minority students in their second year of study with a 3.0 minimum GPA).
    Rania Ghrayeb – Winifred M. and George P. Pitkin Foundation Scholarship (Awarded to students exhibiting academic excellence).

    Clifton:

    Polikseni Hysi – Securing Our Future Scholarship (Awarded to students exhibiting academic excellence).

    Cresskill:

    Hyosuk Kim – Dr. Seymour Lewis Endowed Memorial Scholarship (Awarded to a biological sciences student with exceptional abilities).

    Dumont:

    Sheena Ali – Theresa Romano Nursing Scholarship (Awarded to nursing students who have completed at least one semester and have a 3.0 minimum GPA).

    East Hanover:

    Lauren Goffreda – Dr. Richard D. Ciccone Endowed Scholarship (Awarded to students of Italian heritage and a 3.0 minimum GPA).

    Elmwood Park:

    Zainab Shafi – 2007 Securing Our Future Essay Contest, Third Place (An annual contest established in 1996); MDK Development Scholarship (Awarded to a student with a 3.0 minimum GPA).
    Sandra Suleska – Kenneth Edelson Endowed Scholarship (Awarded to a student with a 3.0 minimum GPA).

    Englewood:

    Khadija Ali – Bergen Community College General Scholarship (Awarded to a student who has exhibited academic excellence).
    Hysniyah Ford – Paul Marshall Music Scholarship (Awarded to a music student taking a minimum of nine credits per semester and possessing a 3.0 minimum GPA).
    David Heravi – Delta Dental Foundation Scholarship (Awarded to students who have completed their first semester of the dental hygiene program and maintained a 2.5 minimum GPA).
    Angelica Quintero – 2007 Securing Our Future Essay Contest, Fifth Place (An annual contest established in 1996).

    Fair Lawn:

    Giselle Bongcaron – William M. Orr Endowed Scholarship (Awarded to nursing students who have completed one semester in the program, possess good clinical skills, a 3.0 minimum GPA and demonstrate critical thinking ability and maturity).
    Amy Clive – Adam Feigenbaum Award of Merit (Awarded to students in recognition of their meritorious academic efforts).
    Mitkumar Desai – A.M. “Bud” D’Alessandro Endowed Memorial Scholarship (Awarded to a student who is a Bergen County resident and plans to major in business).
    Sana Khawaja – Ciarco Family Foundation Endowed Scholarship (Awarded to students with a 3.0 minimum GPA).
    Lisa Mastrofilippo – Dr. Richard D. Ciccone Endowed Scholarship (Awarded to students of Italian heritage and a 3.0 minimum GPA).
    Samantha Rivera – Ciarco Family Foundation Endowed Scholarship (Awarded to students with a 3.0 minimum GPA).

    Fort Lee:

    Stavroula Koronis – Alumni Network Scholarship (Awarded to students who have completed 15 credits and maintain a 2.75 minimum GPA).

    Garfield:

    Allison DeLuccia – Dr. Richard D. Ciccone Endowed Scholarship (Awarded to students of Italian heritage and a 3.0 minimum GPA).
    Lucretia Manuel – Leo Foundation Restricted Scholarship (Awarded to a student who is a single parent with young children, a 3.0 minimum GPA and a desire to continue his or her education at a four-year institution).
    Eduardo Muzquiz – William F. Coggie Endowed Scholarship (Awarded to a male student who has completed his GED or ESL requirements at the Philip J. Ciarco Jr. Learning Center, Hackensack, and has been accepted into a certificate or degree program at the College).
    Katherine Rivera – Alumni Network Scholarship (Awarded to students who have completed 15 credits and maintain a 2.75 minimum GPA).
    Paula Toribio – DeCotiis, FitzPatrick Cole & Wisler LLP Scholarship (Awarded to focused students).

    Hackensack:

    Courtney Agboh – Alumni Network Scholarship (Awarded to students who have completed 15 credits and maintain a 2.75 minimum GPA).
    Suzana Cordova – Mabel Roman Memorial Scholarship (Awarded to a surgical technologist with a 3.6 minimum GPA).
    Matthew Healy – DeCotiis, FitzPatrick Cole & Wisler LLP Scholarship (Awarded to focused students).
    Nykenya Holmes – Alumni Network Scholarship (Awarded to students who have completed 15 credits and maintain a 2.75 minimum GPA).
    Angela Molina – Ethel Pelletiere Scholarship (Awarded to a female student with children who is majoring in accounting and has a 3.0 minimum GPA).
    Shernae Scott – Winifred M. and George P. Pitkin Foundation Scholarship (Awarded to students exhibiting academic excellence).
    Jonathan Valencia – Hispanic Institute Scholarship (Awarded to a Hispanic student with a 3.0 minimum GPA).

    Elizabeth Tiseo – Gay/Lesbian Scholarship (Awarded to a gay/lesbian student with a minimum of 12 college-level credits and a 3.0 minimum GPA).

    Hillsdale:

    Christine Monteaperto – William M. Orr Endowed Scholarship (Awarded to nursing students who have completed one semester in the program, possess good clinical skills, a 3.0 minimum GPA and demonstrate critical thinking ability and maturity).
    Jennifer Wolff – Moses Family Scholarship (Awarded to a student who has completed two semesters of study with a minimum of 18 credits and a 3.8 minimum GPA).

    Kearny:

    Michelle Ferares – Bergen Community College General Scholarship (Awarded to a student who has exhibited academic excellence).
    Stephen Gill – Lester H. Bogen Memorial Scholarship (Awarded to a full-time student); William Fordham Memorial Scholarship in Criminal Justice (Awarded to a Bergen County resident and criminal justice student with a 3.0 minimum GPA and who is not currently employed by a police department).

    Little Ferry:

    Graaf Ali – Khym Foundation Scholarship (Awarded to students with a 3.0 minimum GPA).
    Giuseppe Gigante – Dr. Richard D. Ciccone Endowed Scholarship (Awarded to students of Italian heritage and a 3.0 minimum GPA).

    Lodi:

    Tamalia Abrams – Michael J. Esposito Trust Scholarship (Awarded to speech, theatre or performing arts students with a minimum of 12 credits, have completed two courses in their major and maintain a 2.5 minimum GPA).
    Erik Anderson – Securing Our Future Scholarship (Awarded to students exhibiting academic excellence).
    Matthew Capizzi – Ciarco Family Foundation Endowed Scholarship (Awarded to students with a 3.0 minimum GPA).
    Jason Cina – Jacob “Jack” Fischer Horticulture Scholarship (Awarded to a student who has completed 15 credits in the horticulture field, has demonstrated outstanding contributions to the program and maintains a 3.0 minimum GPA).
    Purvi Desai – Indian-Americans of Paramus Inc. Scholarship (Awarded to a student of Indian descent who demonstrates academic excellence and is actively involved in community service).
    Claudia Gutierrez – Franco-Miranda Latino Excellence Scholarship (Awarded to a full-time student with at least one semester of non-remedial college-level coursework, a 3.0 minimum GPA and is an active participant in a student organization).
    Juan Lopez-Rangel – Paragon Federal Credit Union Endowed Scholarship (Awarded to a student who is seeking a career in the technology field).
    Mabel Trigoura – Khym Foundation Scholarship (Awarded to students with a 3.0 minimum GPA).

    Oscar Rojas – Verizon Scholarship (Awarded to a student pursuing a career in electrical engineering or video production with a 3.0 minimum GPA).

    Mahwah:

    Laura Kramer – William M. Orr Endowed Scholarship (Awarded to nursing students who have completed one semester in the program, possess good clinical skills, a 3.0 minimum GPA and demonstrate critical thinking ability and maturity).
    Cindi Small – Dorothy P. Romaine Evening Nursing Scholarship (Awarded to a evening nursing student who has completed 16 credits in the program, a 3.0 minimum GPA and remains a critical thinker with demonstrated maturity).

    New City, N.Y.:

    Susan Choi – Delta Dental Foundation Scholarship (Awarded to students who have completed their first semester of the dental hygiene program and maintained a 2.5 minimum GPA).

    New Milford:

    Christina Cuomo – William M. Orr Endowed Scholarship (Awarded to nursing students who have completed one semester in the program, possess good clinical skills, a 3.0 minimum GPA and demonstrate critical thinking ability and maturity).

    Palisades Park:

    Janeth Hernandez – Edreth Videtti Scholarship (Awarded to a paramedical program student).
    James Pak – R. Neil Ender Memorial Scholarship (Awarded to a mathematics student with a 3.5 minimum GPA).

    Paramus:

    Jason Leiken – Ciarco Family Foundation Endowed Scholarship (Awarded to students with a 3.0 minimum GPA).
    Kimberly Mahaffey – Dr. Harold Winn Memorial Scholarship (Awarded to a science student who maintains a 3.0 minimum GPA).
    Yi-Chun Sheng – Ciarco Family Foundation Endowed Scholarship (Awarded to students with a 3.0 minimum GPA).

    Evelyn Escamilla – Stephen Gold Memorial Scholarship (Awarded to academically deserving physically impaired students).
