A three week alteration project that took three months to open was dedicated by Elizabeth Davis and her staff. Attending the ceremony was County Executive Dennis McNerney who presented Davis with a Certificate of Commendation on the grand opening of the new kitchen. Also present from the County was Edgar M. Freedman, Executive Assistant to the Community Development program.
Davis, in addition to giving a brief history of Bright Side Manor, singled out the people who had given unstintingly of their time. She mentioned her husband, but did not give him an award as she was still giving unstintingly of her time.
Among those getting bricks with their name were: John Fellgraph an architect who donated all of his services, Mary Hirschman who helped make sure there was an oven and a place to prepare meals, the Ridgefield Park Elks Club and Charles H. Parson.
Mentioning some of the travails that had to be overcome, she thanked Hugo for his extreme efforts in making sure that meals cooked off-premise were handled with aplomb and serenity. Elizabeth Davis also thanked the kitchen staff for their efforts as well.
The reason the three week project was prolonged was due to the snags occurred when the installations were supposed to begin. Floors had to be ripped up; equipment refit among other items.
