Patriotic Program by Navy Veteran Sets Tone for Flag Day

Public Invited to The Atrium's "Salute to America" presented by Jim Cava of Operation Red, White & Blue at The Allendale Community for Mature Living

Area residents are invited to The Allendale Community for Mature Living on Thursday, June 12, when The Atrium hosts a "Salute to America" in honor of Flag Day, which falls on the coming Saturday. The one-hour patriotic program, which is free of charge, starts at 2 p.m. in the lobby of the supportive independent living senior residence.
Flag Day marks the anniversary of the adoption of the flag by the U.S. government, and was signed into legislation as an official holiday by President Harry Truman in 1949.

The program will be presented by Petty Officer Jim Cava (U.S.N., Ret.), a Vietnam Veteran who proudly served as a Corpsman with the 5th Marines. In 1998 he founded Operation Red, White & Blue, a non-profit organization whose sole purpose is to foster and uphold American heritage, principles and patriotism.

"I believe the fundamental principles upon which our country was founded are what make the United States of America the greatest nation in the world," said Cava. "It is only right that Americans acknowledge and appreciate the immense human sacrifice that has been given by so many of our honorable and brave patriotic Americans to uphold the undeniable principles for which we stand and to defend the unalienable rights to which all people are endowed. For without these honorable Americans our great country would not exist."

Through narrative and song, Cava's inspirational and motivational patriotic ceremonies and programs aim to educate and re-educate Americans to the true meaning and significance of American heritage, principles and patriotism. To date, Petty Officer Cava has proudly given 2,245 patriotic presentations.

"Many area seniors have served or know people who have served in the armed forces. This inspiring program is sure to touch the hearts of many," said Mary Stampleman, ADC, Director of Therapeutic Recreation and Community Relations at The Atrium.

The Allendale Community for Mature Living is located at 85 Harreton Road in Allendale, off Route 17 South. For more information about this or upcoming programs, which are open to the public, call (201) 818-7979 or visit www.allendalecommunity.com.
