Nemesis Dominate Titans

SUNY Maritime-The Nemesis got on the scoreboard before a second ticked off the clock and never looked back enroute to 46-6 victory over the New Jersey Titans in National Women's Football Association (NWFA) action Saturday night.
Kicking with a strong wind at her back, kicker, Jane Vongorachoti, got off a 65 yard opening kickoff that landed at the Titans three yard line. No Titan player picked up the ball and Nikia Speed of the Nemesis took advantage of the situation to pick up the ball and stroll into the endzone for a touchdown before even a second had elapsed from the game clock. The Nemesis never looked back after that dominating the Titans in every facet of the game.

Quarterback, Val Halesworth, continued her strong play completing 11-19 passes for 174 yards and three touchdowns. Several of the passes were of the spectacular variety with receiver Val Monaco making one of the toughest, on an over the shoulder, falling down catch. Ximora Diaz continued her season of dominance scoring three touchdowns and rushing for 106 yards on 12 carries, her efforts on the field were rewarded when she won her third Offensive Player of the Game award.

The defense, one of the stingiest in the League, continued their stellar play. While the Nemesis offense moved the ball up and down the field, the Titans offense was stuck in neutral. The defense of the Nemesis led by their core of linebackers and defensive line, kept Titan Quarterback, April Meyer, on the run for most of the game. Not allowing the speedy, Meyer time to set up and find her receivers. CB, Donna Bruce, Defensive MVP, kept the Titan receivers at bay with several open field tackles and added an interception.

The Titans finally scored a meaningless touchdown with 1.34 left in the fourth quarter to break the Nemesis's shutout streak at 11 quarters. The Nemesis move to 6-0 on the season and clinched their Division crown. Up next, the Conference Crown.

The Nemesis will have their second bye of the season next week and will return to action June 14, when they travel to Old Orchard Beach, Maine to take on the Maine Freeze in a 7:05 start.

Renegades Miss Opportunities in Loss to the Power Turnovers and missed opportunities halted the Alabama Renegades bid to beat
the Pensacola Power twice this season in a 40-8 loss Saturday night. The Renegades got into the red zone and threatened to score several times but couldn't get the football across the goal line. Offensive turnovers also halted several key drives in the game. Alabama's only points came in the second quarter after running back Cheronda "Rock" Phillips scored on a one yard run. Quarterback Nancy Byrd hit wide receiver Nikie Hunter in the corner of the end zone for the two point conversion.

Byrd had a rough night passing the ball. She only completed 7 passes in 23 attempts for 86 yards and had three interceptions. Tight end Sandra Kerby was the leading receiver for the game catching five passes for 56 yards. Running back Rock Phillips had a breakout night running the ball. She had 18 rushes for 83 yards and scored her first touchdown of the season.

Defensively, the Renegades had a hard time stopping the NWFA's leading rusher, Pensacola's LaKeisha Johnson. Johnson has already rushed for more than 2,000 yards on the season. Defensive end Ashley Moody and lineman Dana Sanders were the leading tacklers for the Renegades, each with five total tackles. Linebacker Hayley Howard added four total tackles.

Alabama has a week off before their final two games of the season. Their final home game will be June 14, when they will face the Kentucky Karma. Kentucky received their first loss of the season this past weekend at the hands of the Cincinnati Sizzle. The Renegades final home game will be Girl's Inc. Night with young ladies from Girl's Inc. attending the game and helping on the sidelines. In addition, the Viper Vixen will be performing at half time.

The Alabama Renegades are part of the National Women's Football Association (NWFA). The NWFA is the largest league in the world for women's full contact  football. There will be eight games played in the 2008 regular season. The team will travel to Cincinnati, OH; Louisville, KY; Chattanooga, TN; and Pensacola, FL.
