Morton Williams New Supermarket
Sophie Stone and I visited the ribbon cutting ceremony at the new Morton Williams Supermarket in the Newport section of Jersey City. We met with Mayor Jeremiah T. Healy, MWS VP Avi Kaner, and Frank Filiatrault, MWS account Coordinator, before the ribbon cutting ceremony.
Finding our way around Jersey City during commuting time was a little daunting, but we did manage to locate their parking garage on North Boulevard just off Newport Parkway and near to the Newport Mall. From there it was a short walk through the garage and directly into the store.
I couldn't help but ask Albert N. Thompson if he gets mistaken for Bill Cosby. This congenial President and CEO of Public Relations and Consulting Firm replied that it has become a habit just to wave hello when people call him Bill, rather than correct them.
Sophie wandered around the huge 30,000 foot shopping area and we almost lost each other. She commented on the full selection of ethnic food that was on the shelves, one whole aisle dedicated to it. Of course she took in the fresh fish department, the prepared foods and the simple layout. We didn't have the time or I think she would have bought many of the items that were on sale.
After the ribbon cutting ceremony, we were invited to South City Grill, just around the corner, for a reception. We sat across from MWS Meat Manager Victor Colello, his fiancé , Lucia Tejada, VP Sales for Nebraskaland and her coworker..
The food kept coming around at South City Grill, where even though I wasn't too hungry after the hors d'oeuvres, I demolished the raw clams and oysters while the others ate the jumbo shrimp and lobster pieces and mussels.
It was there that we found out some inside information from Colello. He is capable of making his own sausages from various viands, very proud of the fact that he has been making them for years. When asked about labor relations, he gave MWS high marks saying that they were a pleasure to work for; they certainly treated him right.
