Bike-A-Thon/Walk-A-Thon expected to raise thousands for Local Charities

Several hundred people are expected to walk, run, or ride their bikes in a
major local fund-raising event sponsored by the New Jersey Knights of
Pythias Charity Foundation. The event will take place on Sunday, September 7
,2008 and will begin at 9:00 AM at the Otto Pehle County Park in Saddle
Brook, NJ.
Last year's event raised $25,000 which was distributed to: Autism Speaks,
The Valley Foundation for Autism, The Crohn's & Colitis Foundation, The N.J.
Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, Mended Hearts Chapter #140, Alzheimer's
Foundation, Alliance for Lupus Research, Lymphoma & Leukemia Society, and
local emergency service units in Fair Lawn, Glen Rock, Paramus, and Saddle
Brook. In Fair Lawn, recipients included the Police Explorer Troop,
Auxiliary Police, CERT, the Ambulance Corps & the Heavy Rescue Squad.
This year's major charities include: Autism, Cancer, as well as local
emergency volunteer service groups serving those communities that have
Pythian Lodges.
"Last year's event was a tremendous success," said Jeff Zerowin, Project
Director of the event. "We are particularly proud that so many residents
came out to help the Pythians in our efforts to support local charities and
to give back to our communities."
There will be five bike routes of 2.5, 5, 10, 15, and 30 miles that will
start from the area adjacent to the Saddle Brook Pavilion. Walkers will use
the % mile walking path around Saddle Brook pond.
Several rest stops, supplied with water, fruit and snacks, will be
established for the needs of the participants.
All participants are invited to a Pythian sponsored picnic to be held at the
Saddle Brook Pavilion at the conclusion of the events.
Corporate and local businesses are invited to sponsor this event by
contacting Jeff Zerowin at 201-796-1058. Registration requires a $25 fee.
The first 100 registrants who raise a minimum of $100 for charity will
receive a free T-shirt, a water bottle, and a free raffle entry in a drawing
for various prizes including a new bike. All net proceeds will be donated to
Pythian sponsored charities.
