PS&S Receives Award of Merit

1st Ave. School Paulus, Sokolowski & Sartor (PS&S), one of Northeast regions' leading design firms, is proud to announce that it has received an Award of Merit from New York Construction magazine’ Best of ‘08 awards program for First Avenue District School in the Pre-K-12 Education category. The annual competition recognizes construction excellence from across the tri-state region.
This high performance elementary and middle school was designed and constructed in an existing residential neighborhood in Newark, New Jersey. PS&S Architecture, PC provided architectural, engineering and environmental services for this project. It has achieved strong reviews by the community, students, faculty, City of Newark, and the State of New Jersey and is being hailed as a quality and technology benchmark for all schools in the Newark school system.

It was designed to United States Green Building Council (USGBC) LEED Standards to reduce operating costs; conserve resources; encourage renewable energy technology; reduce environmental impacts; increase student productivity; improve indoor air quality; and initiate a high performance building envelope.

A record 268 nominated projects were judged by an independent jury of industry experts. The winners were based on entry criteria including project management and client service, safety, design and functionality. PS&S will be among the 36 winners to be featured in the December issue of New York Construction and will be honored at an awards breakfast on December 10th at the Marriot Marquis in Manhattan.

In addition, those 36 projects will be entered in the first ever National Best of 2008 competition, and will be judged against winning entries from other regions.
