Successful Meetings magazine reported that…”
Atlantic City's City Council has renamed the iconic Miss America Way in pursuit of new meetings business. The street, which is home to the Atlantic City Convention Center as well as several convention hotels, is now officially called "Convention Boulevard."
"The renaming of Convention Boulevard defines Atlantic City's thriving convention business by using a more business-like approach," said Atlantic City Convention & Visitors Authority (ACCVA) President Jeff Vasser. "Conventions and meeting business infuse the local economy with millions of dollars by booking hotel stays, eating in restaurants and shopping. Conventions are at the heart of what's making Atlantic City a well-rounded destination. Convention Boulevard is the route that will get them here."
The Miss America pageant originated in Atlantic City, N.J., in 1921 and was held there every year after until 2006, when the pageant moved to Las Vegas. Long associated with the pageant and with gambling, Atlantic City has been courting a new, more professional image in the last year by opening and planning several non-gaming hotels. By expanding options for business and leisure travelers alike, it hopes to draw more families and meetings to the famous East Coast destination.
